Your Teacher

The Scoop on Mrs. McWain

Welcome to 4th grade, Old Town Texans! I am so proud to be part of this great school community. I have been teaching for 7 years and this is my sixth year to teach at Old Town.

This past spring was very special because my husband, Mr. Nick and I had our first baby. We didn't find out what we were having so we could be surprised on his or her birth day. I had a feeling that it was a boy and I was right! Our son Brayden Hunter was born on April 8, 2016. He was a little nugget when he was born weighing only 5 pounds 11 ounces. Have you ever held a full bag of sugar? Well he weight a little bit more than!

As a child, I grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. I moved to Texas to go to Baylor University, where I majored in Psychology and minored in Child and Family Studies. My original plan was to become a children's therapist so I moved to Austin after I graduated to go to Graduate school at St. Edwards. While earning my Master's Degree at St. Edwards University I worked at Jollyville Elementary school as a teacher's assistant. It was this job that made me fall in love with teaching and helped me decide to pursue my childhood dream of becoming a teacher. After graduating with my master's degree I went back to school to become a teacher. My educational path was not the typical path of most teachers but I am so thankful to have this amazing job as your teacher!

In my free time, Mr. Nick and I love to go hiking, try new restaurants and traveling. I am an avid reader and love a variety of different genres. Some of my other favorite things to do is spending quality family time with Mr. Nick and Brayden, taking Brayden and our dog Brodie for walks, spending time with family and watching football. I am a HUGE Baylor Bear  and Kansas City Chiefs fan!! Mr. Nick and I have a lot of fun routing against each other during football season because we like different teams. His favorites are the Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys. Do you have a favorite sports team?

One of the greatest pleasures of my job is getting to know each of you. I strive very hard to learn your needs and to help each of you feel successful in 4th grade. I don't promise it will always be easy but I do promise that with hard work together can we achieve anything!
